Clarion Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition is the power tool in SoftVelocity's Clarion line. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool includes a number of unique features that helps Clarion users maintain a reputation as the fastest, most efficient developers in the industry.

At the core of the Clarion IDE is the Data Dictionary -- a metadata repository which stores table descriptions, attributes for defaults on how columns should be displayed on Windows and Reports, business rules, and use options.

The Clarion Application Generator is central to the IDE and works in concert with the Data Dictionary. AppGen createsand maintains applications in a process known as virtual programming. The interactive Application Builder Class (ABC) Classes and Templates work in conjunction with the Application Generator to produce pre-tested OOP code. The basis for productivity is the Clarion 4GL language, which is purpose-built, database-neutral/data-centric programming language created specifically for business applications. The software can access virtually any data through a combination of ODBC/ADO and native database drivers.

But don't let the automation features leave you with the impression that Clarion isn't suited for hand-coders. Clarion is one of the most productive business languages in existence today, and has been used for writing everything from games and shareware utilities to traffic control systems.

In addition to all of the great features common to both versions, the Enterprise edition contains the following enhancements:

The Dictionary Synchronizer

The Dictionary Synchronizer lets developers quickly capture or create entire database schemes — complete with relationships — and transfer them into a Clarion data dictionary.

Developers can also revise table structures within Clarion data dictionaries and generate script files to revise the actual databases. The Dictionary Synchronizer allows developers to synchronize one or more tables defined in two different data dictionaries or construct a new consolidated data dictionary from disparate dictionaries.

Messaging Templates

Add e-mail (SMTP) transfers or newsgroup (NNTP) postings from your database. Messaging templates incorporate the necessary code to turn your application into a complete mail or news client — and works independently of any other mail or news client.

These templates allow you to add functionality to:

  • send a document (e-mail or newsgroup posting)
  • merge data into documents before sending
  • send messages upon certain events (triggers)
  • establish global recipients and groups of recipients
  • add an attachment file to a message
  • transmit a message using a process to a single recipient or group
  • send the same message to newsgroups and in e-mail simultaneously

Supports POP - SMTP, Authenticated SMTP and NNTP protocols
